Carolance: liqueur review, how to drink + 5 cocktail recipes

Carolans Irish Cream or simply Carolans is a famous Irish cream liqueur, which is second only to the famous one Bailis.

Carolans was first released in 1978. His small homeland is County Tipperary, located in the southern part of Central Ireland. The young elixir got its name in honor of the famous Irish bard Thorl O’Carolan, who lived in the 17th century. Since 2010, the famous Campari Group has been the owner of the brand.

The process of making Carolance liqueur

The Irish drink contains the following ingredients: Irish whiskey Tullamore Dew, locally produced alcohol, cream, honey, chocolate, water, some emulsifiers and probably vanilla.

Carolance is made in 4 stages:

  1. A combination of whiskey and alcohol.

  2. The transformation of cream, honey, water and chocolate into a homogeneous mass, to which emulsifiers are added to avoid further coagulation.

  3. Production of an emulsion from the alcohol and milk components of the future beverage.

  4. Control tasting and bottling of the liquor (the drink is sold in 0, 375, 0.5, 0.7 and 1 liter bottles).

The finished product differs from its main competitor, Baileys, by the presence of honey, less sweetness and a more balanced taste.

Description and shelf life of Carolance

Classic Carolance contains 17% ethanol. In the case of the export version intended for the UK, this parameter is reduced to 14.5%.

The aroma of this light beige drink contains a pronounced creamy base, accompanied by toffee and chocolate-honey undertones.

The taste of the liqueur is a successful combination of cream, chocolate and honey caramel.

According to the producers, their products can be stored at a temperature of 5-20°C for up to two years when sealed.

After opening, it is recommended to put the drink in the refrigerator and consume it within six months.

How and with what to drink Carolance

Like all other cream liqueurs, Carolance is exclusively a dessert drink.

In its purest form, it is drunk slightly chilled (you can add an ice cube for this purpose) from small liqueur glasses. It goes well with sweet pastries, bananas and creamy desserts.

In addition, the drink can always be added to coffee or hot chocolate.

As in the case of Baileys, it is highly discouraged to mix the liqueur of interest with acidic substances; for example, with citrus juices (otherwise, its milk component will simply curdle).
