Danzka vodka: history, overview of types, how and with what to drink + how to distinguish a fake

The recognition of Danzka vodka went far beyond Denmark a century ago. It is based on an exceptional recipe.

The main ingredient is durum wheat of the highest quality. The grains are carefully sorted, crushed, heated in water, and yeast is added. This is how starch becomes alcohol and carbon dioxide.

After fermentation, vodka is distilled using the original Scandinavian method in a 6-column still.

History of Danzka vodka

In 1840, the Danish Distillers company was born in Denmark, which owned 2 Aalborg distilleries. In 1872, they merged into 1 plant, and 9 years later they already owned a large part of the alcohol market. This led to a reduction in the number of wineries and distilleries: by 1923, only 10 out of 2.5 thousand Danish distilleries remained. Danish Distillers has acquired them as well. Later the company changed its name to Danish Distillers Ltd.

Until the 1970s, Danish Distillers was a monopoly in the production of methyl and yeast alcohols. In 1973, Denmark became a member of the European Union, and monopolies came to naught. Now alcohol is supplied to 140 countries.

In the 1980s, Vinhuset Norden employees started thinking about creating the perfect Danish vodka, both internally and externally. The owner of the company, Thomas Anton, liked the idea and began developing the vodka. The first fruits were presented on the market in 1989.

Back to Danish Distillers. The company soon acquired Vinhuset Norden. This has brought many benefits, as Danzka vodka has proved to be in demand not only among Danes, but also other Europeans, Koreans, Americans, Vietnamese and other representatives of various nations.

Then the Danzka brand was acquired by the French company Belvedere. In 2013, it was bought by Waldemar Behn GmbH, a German family business engaged in the production of alcohol in the 4th generation. Now the brand's headquarters is located on the Baltic Sea coast in the former territory of Denmark.
