Frangelico: liqueur review + 6 cocktail recipes

Frangelico - is a popular Italian liqueur, in the production of which the use of hazelnuts plays an important role. The drink's homeland is Piedmont, located in the northwest of the Apennine Peninsula.
Frangelico's story
In its modern form, the liqueur appeared only in the early 80s of the last century, its real creators are considered to be Italian monks.
First of all, it is about a certain hermit, Brother Angelico (fra Angelico - ital.), who lived in the XVII-XVIII centuries and devoted his free time to alcoholic and pharmaceutical research.
Be that as it may, the story of the curious skeptic, which gained popularity with the light hand of the brand's creators, the Barbero company, remains in demand under the current producer of the liqueur: the alcoholic beverage monster Gruppo Campari...
Composition and production of Frangelico
The Italian drink (of course, secret and unique), in addition to the above-mentioned hazelnuts of the local Tonda Gentile variety, undoubtedly includes the following ingredients: grape alcohol, cocoa beans, roasted coffee beans, vanilla, water and sugar...
Along with these ingredients, which were disclosed by the manufacturer, the taste of the liqueur contains hints of bitter almonds, Ceylon cinnamon, wild berries, alpine herbs, and orange blossom (orange blossom).
Beverage production involves several stages:
Insisting the water-alcohol solution on finely chopped hazelnuts.
Distillation of the resulting infusion.
Introduction of vanilla, coffee, cocoa, cinnamon extracts, as well as herbal and berry essences.
Add water, pure alcohol, sugar and cola.
Aging in oak containers from one and a half to two months.
Bottling of the finished liquor in 375 and 750 ml bottles, which not only resemble the figure of a monk in a cassock with a hoodie, but are also equipped with a monk's rope girdle.
The result of all these manipulations is a 20-degree brownish-golden drink with a pronounced chocolate-nutty taste and aroma and containing about 40% sugar.
How and with what to drink Frangelico
It is recommended to drink the liqueur of interest in its pure form from liqueur glasses with the addition of an ice cube.
Suitable snacks are: various creamy desserts, ice cream, chocolate or sweet pastries with the addition of the latter.
In addition, this drink has proven itself well when added to coffee (both black and latte). At the same time, it is highly recommended to sprinkle the resulting cornetto with grated dark chocolate.
There are also those who like to mix Frangelico with milk in arbitrary proportions.
And, of course, not without cocktails. Here are some of them: "Mad Monk", "White Flag", "Avalanche".
