Baileys: history, types, how long to store, what to combine with and how to dilute

The world-famous Baileys liqueur (country of origin - Ireland) marked a kind of revolution in the field of dessert alcohol. This drink, which consists of half cream and does not contain a single gram of preservatives, has not only a great taste, but also a unique shelf life.

The history of Baylis in brief

The ancestor of creamy liqueurs has been produced since 1974 by the Irish company R. A. Bailey's & Co. located in the vicinity of Dublin. Today, this company is actually part of the British alcohol monster Diageo.

As you might guess, the recipe for the drink is kept in the strictest confidence, but there are several verified facts and semi-official assumptions that have become public knowledge.

Whiskey, which is used as the alcoholic base of the liqueur, is distilled three times, which gives the creamy masterpiece its famous softness.

At the same time, peat is never used for the production of malt distillate, and it must be aged in oak barrels for at least three years. These two circumstances allow the liqueur to acquire an exquisite taste and aroma.

Many people explain the secret of the drink's integrity by the presence of a bit of vegetable oil in Irish cream, which allows to combine all the components of the liquor into a homogeneous substance.

And finally, the short-term aging of the finished liqueur in the same oak barrels is of great importance in the formation of the flavor bouquet of Baileys.
