The most popular and titled brand of Turkish beer belongs to the product portfolio of Anadolu Efes, one of the leaders of the international alcohol market.

The drink is supplied to more than 50 countries, it has repeatedly won prestigious world awards.

Today, the holding includes more than 2 dozen breweries in different countries, half of them in Russia.

History of the Ephesus brand

Anadolu Efes was founded in 1969. In the same year, the first beer under the Efes Pilsen brand was produced at the breweries in Istanbul and Izmir.

During the 70s and 80s, the company was actively increasing its capacity by opening its own malt houses and breweries in different regions of Turkey.

In 1986, a special division "Efes Pazarlama" was founded to manage marketing and sales.

In 1996, the corporation opened its first brewery outside the country. The first brewery in Kazakhstan was opened.

In 1998, a subsidiary Efes Breweries International was established in the Netherlands to conduct international operations. A year later, Anadolu introduced its first beer brand (Stary Melnik) to the Russian market, and by the end of the 20th century, it managed to acquire two more breweries: in Romania and Moscow (MEB).

In 2012, the corporation entered into a partnership agreement with one of the world's largest beer producers, SABMiller.

In 2017, the company was awarded the title of "Brand of the Year" at the prestigious World Branding Awards.

Today, Anadolu Efes is the 5th largest brewing company in Europe and the 15th largest in the world in terms of sales. The holding includes 21 breweries: 3 in Turkey, 11 in Russia, 3 in Ukraine, 2 in Kazakhstan, and one each in Moldova and Georgia. The company also owns several malt production and hop processing facilities.

The most popular drink of the brand, produced at different plants, is the Efes Pilsen lager. The drink has repeatedly changed the style of packaging design, while maintaining the same production technology.

The light filtered beer with a straw amber color has a refreshing mild taste with a pleasant hop bitterness and light malt sweetness. The bouquet contains notes of bread, herbs, honey, grain, fruit. Its strength is 5%.

The product is supplied to retailers in glass bottles and cans.

Interesting facts

  1. According to legend, the recipe for the famous product was invented during the existence of the ancient city of Ephesus, which gave the drink its name.

  2. The legendary lager was one of the first beer brands to appear in the post-Soviet space.
