Armageddon beer: a drink review

Armageddon beer: a drink review

A drink with a sonorous name reminiscent of the inevitable decline of human civilization was launched in Scotland in 2012.

A small group of ambitious young people decided to challenge their venerable brewing colleagues and create the world's strongest beer. And they succeeded.

At the time of its release, Armageddon, which contained 65% alcohol (by volume), outperformed its rival, the record holder from Brewdog, by 10 points.

Not a strong beer anymore

However, the enterprising Scots did not stop there and in 2013 organized the production of a stronger beer called "Snake Venom". The drink already contained 67.5% alcohol and pushed Armageddon to the top of the list.

And then it had to give way to a stronger product from the Netherlands.

It is possible that the race for leadership will continue.

Armageddon beer production technology

To produce high-degree beer, producers use different methods.

The most sophisticated simply add ethyl alcohol or whiskey to the drink, thereby increasing the volume.

However, doubts arise as to whether such a product deserves the proud title of "the world's strongest beer" and whether it is even beer at all?

The Scottish company Brewmeister uses the technique of freezing to create high-degree samples - "Armageddon" and "Snake Venom".

At low temperatures, the water contained in beverages turns into ice and is removed, while the alcohol remains in a liquid state and is stored.

As a result, the strength increases, and the beer turns from a low-alcohol product to a high-alcohol product.

Characteristics of the drink Armageddon

In addition to traditional hops and caramel malt, the manufacturer added spring water, wheat and oatmeal to Armageddon, which allowed them to soften the degree as much as possible.

  1. The consistency of the drink is thick, viscous, oily, reminiscent of a sauce.

  2. Color - dark brown, close to the shade of strong tea.

  3. Aroma - light, slightly pronounced, with a sweet caramel trail.

  4. As for the taste, strong Scottish beer is from the category of "for amateurs".

Consumers appreciated

The taste characteristics of Armageddon are extremely low, noting that it is not so much like beer as like vodka diluted with sweet water.

There were doubts about the degree. Most tasters considered that the drink does not pull the declared 65 revolutions in any way.

Especially if you consider the high cost - about $100.

Whether to pay such money for a dubious pleasure or spend it on proven products is a matter of taste and personal preference.
