Tullamore Dew whiskey: history, overview of taste and types

The legendary Irish whiskey "Tullamore Dew" has been preserving local distilling traditions for 200 years, delighting consumers with high quality and unforgettable taste.

The drink without the smoky aroma characteristic of Scottish varieties and the intense sweetness characteristic of American bourbons is known as the first blend of the Emerald Isle.

It is one of the leaders among local brands, standing out among them with an unusually light shade and a complex bouquet.

History of the Tallamore Dew brand

The Tullamore distillery in the heart of the town of the same name was founded in 1829 by local farmer Michael Molloy. The region for the construction was well chosen: the surrounding land provided the distillery with first-class grain and clean water.

Nearby is the Grand Canal, through which whiskey barrels were melted to Dublin.

Half a century later, the company passed into the hands of Captain Bernard Daly, who entrusted the management of the business to a hardworking employee Daniel Edmond Williams... This man, who went from a boy in a stable to the owner of a distillery, is considered the true creator of the brand. His initials are "D. E. W." is not accidentally included in the names of drinks. From a successful combination of letters ("dew" means "dew"), an equally successful slogan was born: "Give Every Man His Dew".

Daniel made a significant contribution not only to the development of the recipe for the legendary whiskey, but also to the equipment of the distillery. Thanks to him, electricity, telephone, and motorized equipment appeared in Tullamore. He brought the brand's drinks to the international market, leaving other Irish products far behind.

In his work, Williams was guided by the motto: "Success does not come to those who want it badly, but to those who care about what they do.". And he persistently brought it to life.

The history of the Tallamore Dew brand

Daniel's determination and thoroughness were inherited by his grandson Desmond, who was not afraid of innovation and created the first blended whiskey in Ireland. It was "Tullamore Dew Blended Whiskey". At his suggestion, the color green and the image of the local dog breed, the Irish Wolfhound, were used in the design of labels.

In the middle of the XX century, the company closed and was revived only 60 years later. Today the brand is owned by Cantrell & Cochrane".

Features of Tallamore Dew production

  1. 3 ingredients are used as raw materials: grain, water and yeast.

  2. The distillation is performed three times, which ensures exceptional smoothness of the product. Distillation cubes of 3 types are made by hand from copper.

  3. The blend includes 3 varieties of spirits: malt, grain and "pot still" (a special category produced by batch distillation; it is used only in Irish distilling).

  4. For maturation, 3 types of barrels are used (traditional, bourbon, sherry), for aging - containers of madeira, rum, port, Oloroso sherry, cider.

The result is a deep, amazing whiskey with a complex character and a delicate light golden hue. The quality of the drinks is confirmed by numerous awards.
