Grenadine (Grenadine) - is a thick sweet syrup of deep red color.
The name has a French origin from the word grenade - pomegranate. But the birthplace of this wonderful syrup is considered to be a city in Spain, Granada.
In the original recipe, nothing but natural pomegranate juice and sugar syrup was used, but now grenadine is made from all kinds of berries, mostly red, and even syrups with artificial ingredients are produced.

The history of liquor
Few people know, but in the world there is not only syrup, but also Grenadine liqueur. Phillips of Bristol Grenadine can rightfully be considered the most prominent representative of this drink.
The history of the liqueur begins in 1825. Back in 1739, a certain James Phillips was the most famous wine merchant in Bristol.
In 1804, a liquor company hired him as a chief accountant, and later James became their partner.
In 1825, he bought the company from his partner, now known as JR Phillips. And together with his sons William and Augustus, he released a unique line of liqueurs - Old English cordials with a variety of flavors Pink cloves, Lovage, White Peppermint, Green Peppermint, Aniseed, Shrub and the brightest representative - Grenadine liqueur.
Liqueurs from this series were considered medicinal because they contained herbs, roots, and spices.
Characteristics of the liqueur
The drink in question is created according to a unique recipe, its strength does not exceed 3.5%. It is known that the liqueur contains only natural ingredients (pomegranate juice, herbs, spices and sugar, and an alcoholic component).
This ruby-red liqueur is produced in green bottles with a white and red label of 0.7 liters.
Grenadine recipe at home
Today, Grenadine liqueur is a grenadine syrup with the addition of any alcohol. And you don't need to know any secret technologies, just experiment by mixing the syrup with your favorite strong alcohol.
Grenadine syrup can be prepared at home, and you will always have a natural ingredient for cocktails and liqueurs at hand. For this we will need:
Ingredients
Natural pomegranate juice - 1 liter
Granulated sugar - 500 g
The method of preparation
Pomegranate juice must be brought to a boil and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
As soon as the juice becomes half as much and it begins to thicken, add granulated sugar and stir until completely dissolved. Then remove from heat.
After the syrup has cooled, pour it into a glass vessel and the homemade Grenadine is ready.
Store the finished product in the refrigerator.
Homemade syrup will not turn out to be as rich red as the purchased one, but you can always add natural food coloring.
