Marengo: history, overview of species, interesting facts

Fragrant vermouths and elegant wines under the Marengo brand are produced at the Koblevo winery, which borders the popular resort of Mykolaiv region.

The company is owned by Bayadera Group, one of the strongest players in the Ukrainian alcohol market.

The history of the Marengo brand

The first bottle of vermouth with the name "the color of the sea wave" was released in 2001. The date indicated on the product packaging - 1982 - corresponds to the time of the founding of the winery in Koblevo.

It took about 20 years to create a harmonious recipe. The company has been experimenting with ingredients for a long time, combining various European grape varieties with aromatic herbs and spices. The result is a perfectly balanced, refined vermouth made from high quality wine.

In just a few years, the Marengo brand won the love of consumers and became the No. 1 vermouth in Ukraine.

In 2015, the trademark was expanded with a line of refreshing sparkling wines based on nutmeg grape varieties.

Within 5 months, the new champagne became the second best-selling wine in Ukraine.

In 2018, low-alcohol cocktails with the addition of Italian orange and still wines appeared in the Marengo collection.

In 2019, the design of Marengo vermouths was updated as a result of the joint work of the international agencies Reynolds and Reyner and Lewis Moberly. After the restyling, the bottle has become more elegant and stylish: the label has a metallic sheen, the font has become more effective, and the blue and gold cap has a coat of arms.

Specifics of production

The company buys grape vines in Europe (Italy, France, Germany), carefully selecting seedlings of elite varieties. For varietal wines, raw materials are harvested exclusively by hand, for canteens - with the help of French Gregoire harvesters.

The Koblevo plant uses innovative equipment from leading Italian, French, and Japanese companies to produce beverages: Della Toffola, Fabbri-Inox, Daikin, Bertolaso. All stages of production (from grape growing to production) are controlled by Italian oenologists.

Italian traditions and technologies were used to develop the vermouth recipe.

The drinks include up to 11 natural herbs, flowers and spices. The ingredients include: essential oil rose, sage, coriander, lavender, lemon balm, wormwood, chamomile, immortelle, nutmeg, vanilla.
