Jean Jacques: history, overview, types, interesting facts

A soft, refined cognac with a French name is produced in Crimea, in the small village of Bagerovo, which became famous for its military airfield in Soviet times.

The air base has long been out of operation, and the village is now known for another reason - for the vintage drinks made from European grape varieties.

The factory has been producing cognacs for more than half a century, but the popular Jean-Jacques brand appeared only recently - in the 2000s.

The history of the brand

The factory in the village of Bagerovo was opened in 1962. At the same time, vine seedlings from the French region of Champagne were planted on the adjacent territory.

In 1970, the cognac blends were put into barrels made of century-old oak wood for aging, so that in 5 years the first samples of a new drink for Ukraine could be released. Cognac from Bagerovo quickly gained popularity due to its mild flavor and excellent quality.

In the 80s, the production technology was improved. In particular, the company has multi-level cellars that provide the optimal temperature and humidity for aging cognac spirits.

In 1999, the plant became part of Alef-Vinal LLC, which began developing the Jean-Jacques brand in 2004.

In 2007, the new brand became the #1 cognac in Ukraine. Today it is represented by drinks of different aging periods.

Features of production

For the production of cognac in Bagerovo, not only European grape varieties are used, but also technologies:

  1. The raw materials are grown on calcareous, chalky and clay-lime soils, which give the drinks an amazing softness and bright taste.

  2. For Jean-Jacques cognac, vintage harvests are used, harvesting grapes from old vines at the moment of maximum fruit maturity. The high level of fructose gives the bouquet roundness and delicacy.

  3. The young wine is distilled in charente-type stills.

  4. Spirits are aged in old oak barrels, which reveal notes of flowers, fruits and spices in the drinks. The minimum maturation period is 3 years, the maximum is unlimited.

  5. Laboratory analysis of products is carried out at each stage of production.

  6. For water purification, a multi-level reverse osmosis technology is used, which keeps the liquid "alive".

  7. To improve product characteristics, cognac mixtures are subjected to filtration and cold treatment. An obligatory stage is the post-buying rest of cognacs.
