Lauders whiskey: history, overview of taste and types

Lauder blended scotch’s" attracts attention at the first meeting. An unusual tetrahedral bottle with smoothed edges and branded "dimples" on the sides resembles a pot-bellied barrel and cannot go unnoticed.

In addition to its unique design, the drink delights customers with its excellent taste, which embodies the best qualities of traditional whiskey blends.

History of the Lauders brand

The company is one of the oldest representatives of blended Scotch scotches. The origins of its creation can be traced back to 1834, when the owner of a small bar in Glasgow decided to try his hand at mixing spirits.

Archibald Lauder was not a professional master distiller at all: he made his living by selling alcohol. However, the enterprising Scotsman was one of the first to come up with the idea of conducting a kind of research and tasting of alcohol.

To evaluate the newly created blends, the talented experimenter invited numerous friends and acquaintances to his own establishment, using the feedback received to further improve the drink.

The work to create the perfect blend took about two years: In 1836, Archibald Lauder received a license to manufacture products under his own name.

The eccentric merchant also became famous for his unusual "advertising campaign". Visitors to the drinking establishment were offered not only to taste "home-made whiskey", but also to get a haircut without leaving the bar: the owner equipped a small barber shop in the basement.

At first, Lauder scotch’s" was sold only in Scotland, but in the second half of the XIX century it began to actively conquer foreign markets. At that time, the design of the drink was quite simple, but this did not prevent it from gaining fans in all parts of the world. In the 80s and 90s, the whiskey received several prestigious medals at international competitions - the images of the first awards still adorn the bottle today.

The spread of Lauders whisky beyond Scotland and Britain was facilitated by traveling aboard the Queen Mary, a legendary transatlantic liner that started its journey from the port of Glasgow.

For a long time, the brand remained the property of the Lauder family, but at the beginning of the XX century, the brand was sold, after which it changed hands several times.

Since 1992, Lauders has been produced by MacDuff International.
