The history of Teachers whiskey

The legendary Teacher's is one of the oldest Scottish whiskey brands. The origins of the distillery can be traced back to the 1930s, when a young entrepreneur named William, a memorable "teacher's" surname and unwavering belief in himself, obtained a license to sell alcohol.

The sale was organized in a grocery store owned by Thatcher's future mother-in-law in one of Glasgow's up-and-coming neighborhoods. 2 years later, after marrying Agnes Macdonald, William opened his first "dram shop" - an institution where you could go at any time to have a glass or two of whiskey.

In 1836, having received a license to sell bottled scotch, Thatcher became the owner of another drinking establishment. In just a few years, the chain expanded to 20 pub shops, where you could both enjoy a glass of whiskey and buy a bottle of your favorite drink to go.

According to legend, Titcher not only provided its customers with high-quality alcohol, but also introduced them to culture. It is said that it was forbidden to swear and make noise in the ambitious businessman's "dram shops". Thus, Thatcher attracted a respectable public to his establishments. Apparently, William's "pedagogical" surname was not in vain.

In 1860, with the passage of the Liquor Act, the owner of the liquor stores was allowed to experiment and create his own whiskey blends. Fortunately, Willie Teacher had no shortage of suppliers of quality single malt and grain spirits from all regions of Scotland.

Around this time, the great Teacher was created’s Highland Cream" with an extremely high malt content and unique flavor. A legend was born. The brand was registered a few years after the death of the great experimenter - in 1884.

In 1876, the company passed into the hands of Williams' sons and was named William Teacher & Sons Ltd". The descendants of the founder began to actively develop exports, organizing the supply of whiskey to New Zealand, Norway, Australia, Thailand, Italy and the West Indies.

In 1897, the company began construction of its own distillery in Aberdeenshire, which expanded to 8 cubic meters by 1974. The company obtained water for its beverages from local sources located at a depth of 1500 feet.

    Half of it consists of malt spirits and half of grain spirits. The ingredients for the blend are created in different regions of Scotland.

    The scotch has a silky texture, warm rounded taste and a long spicy aftertaste with a hint of smoke.
