King Robert II whiskey: history, overview of taste and types

The original scotch with the royal name is one of the few Scottish brands owned by family-owned enterprises.
The drink "King Robert II" is highly appreciated not only by ordinary consumers, but also by whiskey connoisseurs: Jim Murray gave the product 93 points out of 100 and characterized it as "an honest and refreshing blend".
History of the brand
The origins of Ian Macleod & Company Ltd."that has been producing the popular scotch for more than half a century dates back to 1936, when Leonard Russell founded his own alcohol sales company.
During the XX century, the company actively bought up the best Scottish whiskeys to offer its customers only worthy products. The portfolio of Ian Macleod Distillers, managed by the great-grandchildren of the founder, includes many famous brands. Among them: blends "Isle of Skye" and "Clan Macleod", single malt "Glengoyne" and "Tamdhu", several types of rum, vodka, wine and gin.
In 1984, the company created its own bottling plant "Broxburn Bottlers".
In the 2000s, the company's possessions were supplemented by the famous Tamdhu and Rosebank distilleries. Today, Ian Macleod Distillers is the 10th largest company among Scottish whisky producers and sells more than 15 million bottles of scotch annually.
The King Robert II brand appeared in the company's assortment in 1968. The drink got its name from one of the representatives of the Scottish Stuart dynasty.
To create the blend, first-class grain and malt spirits are used, which have been aged for a long time in sherry and bourbon barrels (from 3 to 12 years).
The soft, smooth character of the scotch was highly appreciated at the International Competition "IWSC-2007", where it received gold in the category "Best Blended Scotch Whisky - No Age Stated". The drink has also received several less significant awards.
Today, the blend is represented in more than 40 countries, in 5 of them it is a sales leader. The annual sales volume is about 500 thousand copies. In addition to whiskey, vodka, gin, and rum are also produced under the same brand.
