Basil syrup: 2 recipes at home

Basil syrup can be made from any kind of plant. It all depends on your taste preferences.

Green basil is milder in flavor and very aromatic, while purple basil contains more essential oils, which makes it brighter in taste and sharper in smell.

The main rule is that the herb should be fresh, without dry leaves and rot.

Recipe for a classic basil syrup

Ingredients

  1. Sugar - 1100 g

  2. Basil - 6 bunches (250-300 g)

  3. Lemon (large) - 1 pc.

  4. Water - 500 ml

The method of preparation

  1. Take basil leaves, wash and dry them a little.

  2. Bring water to a boil, add sugar, pour in lemon juice, stir, bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes.

  3. Throw the leaves into the syrup and cook for 20-30 minutes.

  4. Strain the syrup. Once again, put the strained syrup on the fire and bring to a boil, cook for 5 minutes.

  5. Pour into sterilized jars and tighten them.

Red basil syrup recipe

Ingredients

  1. Red basil leaves - 150 g

  2. Water - 2 liters

  3. Granulated sugar - 1.5 kg

  4. Citric acid - 2 tbsp .л.

The method of preparation

  1. Cut the clean leaves into small pieces, put them in a bowl, cover them with citric acid and mix well with a fork.

  2. Once the basil has given off its juice, add 1 cup of white sugar and mix again with a wooden spoon. Close the container with the products tightly with a lid and send it to the refrigerator for a day.

  3. Base syrup is made from the remaining sugar and water. The flavored mass from the bowl is added to it, stirred and boiled for 20 minutes.

  4. Then turn off the heat and let it cool for 4 to 5 hours.

  5. Strain the finished syrup through several layers of gauze cloth.

  6. Put the clear liquid with a reddish tint back on the fire and boil over low heat for 40 minutes.

  7. Pour into sterile containers and close. Store in the refrigerator.
