Whiskey Glen Clyde: history, overview of taste and types

Glen Clyde is a blended scotch made according to an old recipe of the XIX century at the famous Speyside Distillery, positioned as a "whiskey for gentlemen".

History of the brand

The creator of the young brand "Glen Clyde" is a former captain of the British Royal Navy George Christie, who entered the distilling business in 1956.

For more than thirty years, he has been building a distillery near the village of Drumguish in the Highlands and began producing whisky in 1990.

Glen Clyde was among the drinks produced by the entrepreneur at the new distillery. The scotch got its name in honor of the Clyde River Valley, which flows not far from the distillery.

Since 2012, the Speyside Distillery has been owned by the Harvey family. The new owners focused on creating single malt spirits. Today, the production of the Glen Clyde blend is carried out by an independent manufacturer and supplier GCWL, which produces the drink in large batches specifically for supermarkets.

According to legend, the whiskey is made according to a recipe dating back to 1837, using selected farm barley and purified water from the Tromie River.

Before blending, spirits undergo mandatory aging in oak.

Thanks to its affordable price and decent quality, the blend quickly gained popularity and even managed to win several international awards. Among them: gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the LA International Wine and Spirits Competition.
