How to make vodka with a snake
There are two main methods:
-
A live snake is placed upside down in a glass container. Completely fill it with alcohol, seal it with a porous cork or lid with holes so that the reptile can breathe for a while. After two months, the oxygen is cut off and the bottle is left for another year, sometimes for several years.
-
The reptile is decapitated, bile, blood and venom are extracted, and then placed in a glass. Pour alcohol-containing liquid into it, mix and drink immediately. Sometimes a heart, liver, or gallbladder is offered for the drink.
Vietnamese pharmacies can put on a show when it comes to making it. The buyer is presented with a bottle with a snake that has not yet died (they are resilient and at first just fall into a coma). When it is opened, the reptile tries to escape, opens its mouth to take a breath, but immediately a live scorpion is launched there. The container is closed again and handed to the consumer. However, the animal must be left to alcoholize for at least six months to neutralize the poison.
