Moonshine made from unusual raw materials: 6 recipes at home

Classical methods of making mash from cereals, sugar, fruit and starch are known even to novice moonshiners.
But, in addition to popular methods, there are more extravagant ones. We will not consider the extreme option with a two-hour chattering of the mixture in the "washing machine": the result is unlikely to please you. But recipes made from original raw materials can be interesting from an experimental point of view and offer unconventional flavors.

Recipe for halva moonshine
Ingredients
Halva - 500 grams (it is advisable to use halva without added oils).
Sugar - 1 kg.
Water - 5 liters.
Moonshine yeast - 10-15 grams (usually specialized yeast for alcoholic fermentation is used).
Citric acid - 5 grams (to adjust the pH).
The method of preparation
-
Break the halva into small pieces and place it in a large saucepan.
-
Add water and sugar to the saucepan. Halva can be quite sweet, so you may have to adjust the amount of sugar depending on your taste.
-
Put a saucepan on the fire and heat the mixture until the halva and sugar are completely dissolved, stirring occasionally. Do not bring the mixture to a boil.
-
After dissolving the halva and sugar, let the mixture cool to room temperature.
-
Add the moonshine yeast and citric acid to the cooled mixture. Stir well.
-
Pour the resulting mixture into a specialized fermentation vessel and close it with a lid, but not hermetically.
-
Leave the vessel in a cool and dark place for 7-10 days to let the fermentation process begin. Tightly lidded vessels can lead to explosion due to high pressure.
-
After the fermentation is complete, strain the resulting liquid product through a filter to remove solid halva residues and other particles.
-
Pour the resulting moonshine into a distiller and distill to obtain a purer and stronger alcohol. Follow all safe practices during distillation.
-
After distillation, cool and dilute the resulting moonshine with water to your taste.
-
Let the moonshine sit for a while (a week or two) to improve the taste.
-
After that, your halva moonshine is ready to drink. Enjoy it!
