Champagne Bollinger: an overview of taste and types

Bollinger's history in brief

The history of the famous Bollinger brand goes back almost two centuries. Back in 1829, Jacques Joseph Bollinger, at the suggestion of a titled relative of Count Willermont, became interested in the production of sparkling wines. A small factory in the little-known town of Ai appeared long before that. However, the real fame was brought to him by members of the Bollinger family.

Madame Lily is considered the most eccentric representative of the family. This enterprising woman, having started making champagne, deprived France and the whole world of the prejudices that considered winemaking an exclusively male craft.

Today, the Bollinger house is among the top ten producers of elite sparkling wines. Excellent quality is recognized not only by the largest experts in the field of winemaking, but also by the Royal Court of Great Britain.

The secret of a particularly delicate taste and delicate aroma

It consists in using selected grapes from our own plots and preserving time-honored traditions:

  1. Only first pressed must, the so-called cuvée, is used to make champagne.

  2. Primary fermentation takes place in small wooden barrels, where the wine "rests" and fills with bubbles for at least three years (vintage varieties - much longer).

  3. Champagne bolange contains practically no additional sugars, which allows you to preserve the natural taste.

Overview of the taste and types of Bollinger champagne

The Bollinger brand produces several variants of wines, each of which deserves attention and is intended for a specific group of connoisseurs:

  1. Special Cuvée

It is considered a classic, but the drink is far from simple. This long-aged wine has a rich golden color and velvety soft taste. It is dominated by apple and pear hues, aromas of spicy spices, peaches and nuts. It is recommended to serve as an aperitif before dinner.

  2. La Grande Année 2007

"Excellent Year" is a mature wine with a long aftertaste. The aroma is characterized by honey, cinnamon, light notes of dried fruit, almonds and hazelnuts. The combination of confectionery creamy shades with a subtle sourness and a touch of bitterness gives the drink an exceptional and memorable taste. To appreciate it, it is recommended to serve La Grande Année chilled to 10 degrees. This type of champagne is included in the mandatory menu of elite restaurants and hotels and is an indicator of the high status of the establishment.

  3. La Grande Année Rosé 2007

The drink has a pale coral color with the aroma of currants, dried flowers and mint. The taste clearly shows the sweetness of juicy plums and green-grassy notes.

  4. Bollinger Rosé

"Fresh as a rose, balanced as Bollinger". Bronze-red wine with a berry aroma. On the palate - a combination of cherry and strawberry flavors, soft red currant and light spice.

  5. Bollinger R.D. 2004

Known as James Bond's favorite champagne. It was this drink that 007 preferred and enjoyed in between investigations. Straw-gold color with soft reflections, a union of lemon bitterness and softness of honey, easily perceptible fruity hints. The aftertaste is a composition of cocoa, anise and nutmeg notes. Tasters characterize the wine as powerful, balanced, with a persistent aroma. Before the release of the next James Bond movie, Bollinger released a limited edition of Bollinger 007 - 207 bottles in the shape of a metal ball.

  6. Vieilles Vignes Françaises 2007

The champagne has a rich golden color with a deep, rich taste: a combination of sweet and sour citrus notes and gingerbread confectionery. The finish is long, enveloping - southern spices and cinnamon. The aroma is multifaceted: it lures with light floral shades, deepens with the juiciness of truffles, and ends with a sweet trail of acacia honey.

Each drink of the brand reveals itself in a different way, but Bollinger wines are united by consistently high quality and richness of taste.
