Reyka vodka: a guide to alcohol

The history of Reyka vodka
Reyka vodka from the famous William Grant & Sons company is a real national pride of Iceland, which has stirred up the whole world and quickly won the title of the best vodka in the world. How she achieved this and what are its features - analyzes Vzboltai.
The company that produces Reyka vodka is located in the town of Borgarnes, 74 kilometers from Reykjavik - it is one of the most environmentally friendly regions, because there is not a single industrial plant here. In addition, only energy from geothermal sources, i.e. steam energy, is used in the production of vodka. This makes Reyka the most environmentally friendly vapor, and its name translates to "vapor".
What is the specialty of Reyka vodka?
Every vodka connoisseur knows that the main thing that determines its taste and other characteristics is water. Vodka, even with the highest quality alcohol, can be spoiled by bad water. With Reyka everything is different. For its production, Arctic spring water is used, which additionally undergoes natural filtration through layers of ancient basalt lava, which is more than 4000 years old. This water, which is considered one of the purest in the world, gives the vodka a special softness.
The raw materials used are also of special quality. For the production of vodka, the best wheat and barley are used, which are imported from Scotland and meet the most stringent requirements.
How Reyka vodka is made
The distillation process itself is not so simple either. For the production of Reyka, copper stills "Caterheads" are used, which allow for a one-time and continuous distillation of the brag. Even before the end of distillation, copper additionally softens alcohols, and William Grant & Sons is the only company that uses such devices for the production of vodka.
In particular, due to the use of "Caterheads", Reyka vodka is produced in very small batches, and each bottle has the inscription "small batch", because each distillation cycle lasts more than 6 hours. Such small production volumes allow the company to monitor the quality of each bottle, as each bottle has a batch number on it.
Thanks to these features, Reyka is considered one of the best vodkas in the world. In 2011, in London, at the International Wine & Spirits Competition, it took first place, in 2013 it repeated the result and took gold, and then almost every year it confirmed its title. Few producers can boast of consistently high results.
Taste and aroma of Reyka vodka
Reyka has a surprising flavor for vodka. It is slightly spicy and enveloping, with light tones of smoked meats due to the filtration of water through lava. The taste of vodka is silky and soft, without alcohol content. It contains vanilla and fruity sweets, which is why many people compare it to white rum.
How to drink Reyka vodka
Reyka is an excellent ingredient for premium and unusual cocktails, and it is also good in its pure form. It is not recommended to chill it excessively in the freezer, a refrigerator will be enough to keep both its softness and excellent taste in balance.
