Wort boiler: what is it and how to make it yourself

Some people prefer to brew beer at home. You can prepare a foamy drink with minimal cost. In the set for brewing must be present in the wort brewing boiler.

The device has the shape of a cylindrical vessel, which has a two-layer spherical bottom, which has two layers. It creates a steam jacket to heat and boil the contents.

The lid has a dome shape. It is connected to an exhaust tube with a ring-type chute, a tube for collecting and draining the accumulated condensate.

The draft in the exhaust tube can be adjusted by means of a rotary type damper. The lid has a hatch equipped with sliding doors.

The boiler is made of steel and the bottom is made of copper. It allows you to significantly increase the intensity of heat transfer.

To reduce heat loss, the side walls of the unit are insulated using glass or slag wool. A steel casing is put on this material from the outside.

Features of making a boiler with your own hands

When creating the unit, certain recommendations should be taken into account:

1. A pan or bucket with a lid can be used as a container. The volume of the container is approximately 30-35 liters. The tank must be made of stainless or galvanized steel.

2. To maintain the required mash temperature, it is recommended to wrap the container in insulating material. It can be purchased at any hardware store.

3. To simplify the filtration of wort, a special filter system is created. The easiest way to make a false one. It is presented in the form of a sieve, the diameter of which is slightly smaller than the diameter of the container. When installed in a container, the sieve must be turned over.

4. To make it convenient to drain the wort from the tank, you can use a sanitary tap. It is enough to drill a hole in the container, insert the product according to the technology. An additional filtration system can be installed on the tap. It also uses a sieve that is rolled up in the form of a cylinder.

5. To cool the wort you need to make a chiller from copper tubes of small diameter.

The main advantage of a homemade wort boiler is its low cost. It is easy to make, you do not need to spend a lot of personal time and money.
