Krušovice beer: drink overview, types, facts, history

The Krušovice beer brand, created in the village of the same name at the Royal Brewery Krušovice, is known as the "gold of the Czech crown".
Since 2008, the brewery has been owned by Heineken and, in addition to its home brewery, is produced under license in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
History of the Kruszowice brand
The first mention of the legendary brewery, located in the heart of the Czech Republic, dates back to the early 16th century.
The aristocrat Jiri Birka is considered to be the founder of the brewery, and the date of opening is 1517.
In 1581, the company was bought out by the ruler of the country, Rudolf II, who granted it the status of "royal" and decorated the gate with a symbol of power - a golden crown. The corresponding emblem appeared on the product packaging.
For many years, the Royal Krušovice Brewery produced drinks for the royal table.
The brewery has survived many wars, upheavals, changes of owners and managers, but the tradition of brewing beer for top officials has survived - today Krušovice is the official beer supplied to Prague Castle, the residence of the President of the Czech Republic.
The end of the XIX century, marked by the gold medal at the Prague Zemstvo exhibition, and the second half of the XX century, when local drinks became famous far beyond the country, were particularly successful for the famous brewery.
In 1998, production volumes exceeded 1 million hectoliters.
Features of the Krušovice beer production
The secret of Czech brewers lies in selected ingredients and preservation of traditional recipes.
Water for brewing is extracted from the springs of the Krzywoklatske forests, barley malt is brought from Bohemia, and only Saaz hops are used - the Žatecký poloraný červeňák and Premiant varieties.
The variety of flavors is the merit of a competent choice and combination of several types of malt: caramel, burnt, Munich, light barley, wheat.

Interesting facts about Krušovice beer
In the 17th century, the quality of Krušovice was tested in an original way: the brewer sat on a bench soaked in the intoxicating product and waited for it to dry.
If the bench remained glued to his pants when he got up, the drink was considered worthy of tasting.
The methods of "punishing" unscrupulous employees were no less original.
In the first half of the XIX century, when the brewery was run by the noble Furstenberg family, lazy and negligent employees were deprived of their favorite drink for a whole week.
The brewers of Krushovytsia were so dedicated to their craft that they were the stuff of legend.
It is said that one of the managers lived at the plant for 24 years, another went to bed right next to the barrels, another wrote poetry about the intoxicating drink, and several were kidnapped by the Swedes to learn the secrets of making a noble product...
"The Royal Krušovice Brewery was one of the first large breweries to test the "cold hopping" technology. It is used to produce the light beer Ležák.
