Eggnog cocktail: 3 recipes at home

Eggnog cocktail: 3 recipes at home

Egg nog (egg - egg, nog is short for noggin - a small mug of ale) has a long history and originated in Scotland in the XIV century. The locals loved to make this hot drink at Christmas, and it contained only four ingredients: eggs, dark ale, honey and spices.

The history of the Eggnog cocktail

Eggnog reached its peak of popularity in America when in the XIX century bartender Jerry Thomas published several recipes for this cocktail in his famous book, where he replaced ale with rum and milk. And in Jerry's interpretation, this cocktail was prepared without heating, and he repeatedly emphasized that Scotland invented the hot drink Eggnog, and the Eggnog cocktail is the merit of the Americans.

But even in this variation, the Christmas cocktail of 2012 was excluded from the International Bartender's Association's International Register. No one knows the exact reason for this, perhaps it was due to the numerous variations of the recipe that claim to be original, and today there are about 50 variations.

Strong alcohol (rum, brandy, whiskey) was first added to the New Year's drink Eggnog in America. Italians like to add cherry syrup, and Germans prefer to add egg liqueur instead of eggs.

And each of you can create your own recipe, replacing one type of alcohol with another, for example, rum with vodka, or adding some fruit or nut syrup. Here is only your flight of fantasies and this winter you can please your loved ones with your masterpiece.

And we will tell you how to make Eggnog in more famous variations.
