Duars whisky: history, overview of taste and types

Dewar's blended scotch is the most titled whiskey brand in the world. The Scottish brand has received several dozen top awards, including 7 awards from the Royal Court. No other malt beverage can boast of such a list of merits.

In the USA, Devers is considered the No. 1 brand among whiskeys.

History of the Devars brand

The founder of the brand, John Duarte, begins his career in a small wine shop owned by one of his relatives. In 1846, a young Scotsman opens his own business in Perth, starting to sell whiskey blends under his own name. Not only does he experiment with blends, mixing different single malt spirits, but he is also one of the first traders to start pouring drinks into glass bottles instead of the usual barrels.

The innovative approach does not go unnoticed: sales are growing, and John Dewar & Sons becomes famous.

Gradually, the owner's son Alexander joins the business and decides to double the aging period of the scotch.

After the death of his father, another representative of the family, Thomas Duhar, takes over the development of the family business. He pays special attention to promoting the brand abroad.

In 1886, the company receives its first award at an exhibition in Edinburgh and begins to supply alcohol to the royal table.

In the 1890s, the brothers decide to open their own distillery. The heart of the Highlands, the village of Aberfeldy in Perthshire, with a wonderful natural water source on its outskirts, is chosen as the site for the construction of the plant.

History of the Devars brand

The company, launched in 1898, is named after the village - "Aberfeldy". To mark the opening of the distillery, the brothers organize the first ever film advertisement in the history of alcohol. It is projected on the roof of a New York building, which instantly attracts public attention to the brand's drinks.

A significant milestone on the way to Dewar's stunning success’s" is the release in 1899 of a new whiskey variety "White label" - the first scotch created from a blend of spirits from one region.

The period of the Second World War was stagnant for the company, but by the 50s it managed not only to return to the previous production scale, but also to significantly increase its capacity.
