History of Absolut vodka creation

There is a significant gap of 100 years between the birth of the drink and its popularization.

The drink was first mentioned in 1879, when Lars Olsson Smith launched the production of the Swedish drink Absolut Renat Brännvin, which means absolutely pure "boiled" wine. Which was made from vodka and by distilling the alcohol-containing mass.

And now, a century later, in 1979, the Swedish state-owned company V&S Vin&Spirit AB decided to enter the American market. To do this, they developed a completely new product for the premium segment. In the process of registering the brand in America, the name of the drink was shortened to one word - Absolut.

But to ensure that the new product did not lose its Swedish roots, advertising specialist Gunnar Broman suggested creating a bottle based on the prototype of a Swedish pharmacy potion. And it worked, the bottle became as famous as its contents.

In a short period of time, the Absolut brand managed to displace its predecessors (Finlandia and Stolichnaya), which appeared on the US market 10 years earlier than others, from the leading positions.

In March 2008, V&S Vin&Spirit AB sold a 100% stake to the French company Pernod Ricard at an auction. Despite this, production has remained in Sweden.
