Chernivtsi beer: history, overview of types + interesting facts

Despite the fact that Cernovar is a Czech beer, the vast majority of the company's products are exported abroad.

More than twenty countries buy Chornovar in bulk, and in most countries, all Czech beer is judged by this brand.

Brand history and specifics of production

Initially, the management of the future brewing company was part of the large-scale enterprise "Russian Tradition", which exported beer from abroad. They import such popular beverages as Bavaria and Krušovice into their countries.

However, due to internal competition with local production, sales began to decline, and soon the company was on the verge of ruin.

The management of the company decided to produce intoxicating drinks on their own, ordering several unique recipes from the best Czech and German brewers.

Thanks to the involvement of experienced brewers from outside, the owners of the Chernovar brand have established a unique beer production line.

Types of "Chernovar"

Unlike many competitors, the Cernovar brand line is represented by only two types of beer: dark and light.

However, it is precisely due to this "limitation" that the brewery manages to maintain the uniqueness of the recipe without diluting it with experimental flavors and innovations.

  1. Světlé

    Classic light unfiltered craft beer.

    The strength is 4.9%, density - 11.7%.

A distinctive feature is the mildness of the beer, as well as a pleasant bitterness, which is perfectly set off by a malt aftertaste.

It is consumed with hot meat snacks or spicy food.

  2. Černé

The color of this lager is very similar to mahogany.

The strength of the beer is 4.5%, density - 11.3%.

Connoisseurs praise this beer over caramel ale due to its sweetish aftertaste, and in every sip you can feel the well-broiled malt.

The best appetizer for him is considered to be classic German brezel, or other flour products.

Interesting facts

  1. Cernovar beer is produced in factories that survived the Second World War. That's why the brewers managed to preserve the technology of open fermentation, which has been lost in many places.

  2. In six years (from 2010 to 2016), the company's sales increased 8 times. This figure was higher than it had been in the entire history of the company and the third in the world ranking of production growth.

  3. In 2010, the famous Pavel Hryhorovych, the head of Czech brewing, was involved in the restoration of the plant. He set up a successful production, based on one of the recipes previously published by the company - "Chernovar".

  4. A special uniqueness of Cernovar beer is given by its non-standard recipe - light beer is stronger than its dark counterpart. However, the taste is quite the opposite: although the difference in strength is only 0.4% of those who try dark "Chernovar" for the first time consider it to be one of the strongest beers.
