Cognac Sayat Nova: history and overview of types

Briefly about the drink

Sayat Nova is a cognac produced by the Yegvardi Wine and Cognac Factory, which is located in Armenia. It is one of the largest in the country, and is also well established in the markets of neighboring countries. The rights to the trademark and distribution of products in Russia are owned by the Yerevan Cognac House.

History of Sayat Nova

1962: The Egvard Wine and Cognac Factory was built in the city of Egvard, Kotaikha region. Large vineyards are located in the Ararat Valley. To create blends, they use indigenous white varieties, such as Garandmak, Mskhali, Voskeat and others. Only one of the imported varieties is allowed, but even it must be Caucasian.

The company carefully avoids mixing harvests of different varieties and ages. Even the fact that they are delivered from the same region does not matter. Alcohol matures in barrels made of Caucasian oak. The company has its own coinage shop, which meets the needs of the company. Aging takes from 3 to 20 years. The maturation rate is not changed by oak riveting, and the taste and aroma properties are not enhanced by adding caramel. Strength decreases while the "share of angels" evaporates through the pores of the wood.

At the bottling stage, the containers are sealed with corks. Then they are placed in cardboard boxes, and if the age of the alcohol is more than 10 years, then also in souvenir boxes.

2009: A series of cognacs called "Sayat Nova" was released in honor of the Armenian poet, a master of love lyrics. Sayat-Nova is a pseudonym of Harutyun Sayadyan, who lived in the 18th century. The blenders were inspired by his creative work and the scale of his personality. A successful product should have a beautiful legend behind it. In our case, this is the life of a creator still popular in the Transcaucasus.

2010: The 20-year old cognac received gold in the De Luxe category. Cognacs aged 10 and 14 years were also awarded a gold medal in the Premium category, and 5 and 7 years - in the Standard category.

2020: The company is equipped with the latest Italian equipment: from distillation workshops and cellars with maturing spirits to bottling lines. He managed to preserve the traditions of manufacturing that meet today's quality standards.
