Dougladze cognac: history, features, types + how to distinguish a fake

The cognac was created in the best traditions of Kakheti winemaking. The product of this trademark is widely known in the market of alcoholic beverages and is produced by the company - "Dougladze".

History of Dougladze

The company is quite young, but at the same time it is widely known among consumers. In Georgia, in 2004, Dmitry Dugladze established a company on the basis of a rebuilt cognac production facility that was founded in 1980 and was called "Vaziani".

After the collapse of the USSR in 1991, the company became a joint-stock company. For a long time, the company has been producing not only alcoholic beverages, but also souvenirs.

In 2000, the owners of the company's shares decided to split the company and carry out a complete modernization of the equipment. It was decided to name the company in honor of the famous winemaker Dougladze, who played a great and significant role in the development of winemaking in Georgia.

The plant produces its products using raw materials grown on its vineyards, which positively affects the quality of blending. Continuous processing at the enterprise includes four lines, which makes it possible to produce about 60 tons of wine material every hour. The main production of beverages is concentrated in the city of Tbilisi.

Today, the development of production is carried out by the sons of Dougladze, who were able to bring the brand to the world market of alcoholic beverages.

Features of Dougladze production

To create this wonderful drink, professional blenders mix several types of grapes: pinot, tsitsuka and rkatsiteli.

Next, the blend is subjected to double purification in a special container called Sharansky alambike (copper distillation cube).

The next step is to mix spirits of different ages in compliance with certain proportions. The resulting blend is sent for aging in barrels made of mountain Caucasian oak. The barrels are not closed, and most of the alcohols can evaporate because of this, alcohols are added to the container.

The cognacs of this brand are bottled in bottles with an exclusive design. The container expands upward and has not sloping sides, the bottom of the bottle is made of thickened glass. The bottle is sealed with a cork cork that turns into a plastic cap.

The bottle has a black label with two stripes and an image of a balloon, the stripes have different shades and vary depending on the brand of cognac.

The label of the original product must have the following printed on it: the company logo, the brand name in Georgian and English, and the number of years of aging.

Due to the fact that the products are made from aged cognac spirits, the liquid has an oily structure and when shaking the bottle, droplets of cognac should flow down the walls of the vessel within a few seconds.

How to drink Dougladze cognac

To fully reveal the taste sensations of elite alcohol, it is worth following the classic tasting methods.

The drink is served at a temperature of 20-22 °C, poured into special snifter glasses.
