Sargis cognac: drink overview, types, history

The Sargis brandy line, produced by the Ararat Cognac Factory, is distinguished by the fact that even the brand's young drinks contain long-aged vintage spirits, which provides them with a particularly bright bouquet and a long aftertaste.

Briefly about the plant

Located in the heart of the Ararat Valley at the foot of the mountain of the same name, AKZ LLC has been pleasing consumers with excellent quality alcohol for over 100 years. The company traces its history back to a small factory founded in 1887 by merchant Nerses Tayryan within the walls of the Yerevan fortress. Since then, the company has changed many owners and names.

For the production of alcohol, the plant uses exclusively its own grape raw materials, collected on nearby plantations, which occupy more than 250 hectares.

The special pride of the company is the "Golden Fund", consisting of aged vintage spirits of 20 years of age.

Regular and exclusive drinks are produced at the plant using classic French technology and modern European equipment.

History of the Sargis brand

Sargis cognac was named after the famous Armenian commander and preacher who spread Christianity in the country. Local legends say that St. Sargis died together with his son Martyros and 14 soldiers in the name of faith. Many legends and traditions are associated with his name in Armenia, and in large cities there are ancient churches dedicated to the great commander.

He also became famous as the patron saint of lovers, helping couples to reunite after hardships. That is why in Armenia, lovers do not honor St. Valentine, but St. Sargis, and celebrate their holiday at the end of January, not in February, as is customary around the world. On this day, young people tell fortunes, give each other gifts and attend church services.

It is noteworthy that the president of the Ararat Cognac Factory is also named Sargis, so the line of famous drinks pays tribute to him as well.
