Bakhchisaray wine: history, features and assortment

Bakhchisaray wine: history, features and assortment

Among the enterprises located in the central part of the Crimean peninsula, one of the most famous is the Bakhchysarai plant. It specializes in the production of wines and cognacs.

Company history

The first Bakhchisaray distillery was opened in 1963.

However, winemaking in the region began to develop long before its appearance.

Back in the Middle Ages, the city of Bakhchisaray was a center of trade and attracted craftsmen and wealthy merchants to its streets. Local wine flowed like a river and was a success in Europe.

The first winery in the town looked rather modest and barely met the needs of the local population.

But in a few years, the company was reconstructed, expanded and began to supply drinks for export.

Both still and sparkling wines were produced in Bakhchisarai.

The assortment has been constantly updated, and today the winery produces alcohol for every taste: from light, low-alcohol drinks to strong vermouths, tinctures, cognacs and vodka.

Of particular interest are the local wines, which over the years of the company's existence have proven to be high quality products and have gained many fans in the country and abroad.

Features of production

The plant receives raw materials for wine production from the plantations of the Zapovitne agricultural company located not far from the enterprise.

The vineyards are surrounded by orchards, rose gardens, lavender fields and meadows full of aromatic herbs.

On the north side, the plantings are protected by mountains that prevent the penetration of cold air masses and winds.

In the immediate vicinity of the vineyards are the sea and the steppe, which form a special microzone with comfortable natural conditions.

The abundance of sun ensures good ripening of the fruit and high sugar content.

The mild local climate is best suited for growing wine berries: its characteristics are similar to those of Tuscany and Bordeaux.

That is why the main emphasis is placed on the cultivation of classic European varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Traminer, Aligote, Pinot Noir, etc.).).

Both traditional and modern techniques are used in grape care.

In the process of wine production, classical methods are also combined with advanced technologies:

  1. The shop is equipped with a temperature control function, which made it possible to abandon the pasteurization of dry drinks.

  2. Capacious tanks for storage and fermentation of wort were made in Bulgaria specifically for the Bakhchisaray winery.

  3. The company has implemented an automatic filling system made in Italy.

  4. Own laboratory allows to monitor product quality at all stages of production.

  5. The company's employees include experienced and young winemakers.

Thanks to the skill of which local drinks are invariably popular among consumers and regularly receive awards at international competitions.

  6. The plant's products meet modern quality standards and are classified as wines with a protected geographical indication "Crimea" (category "ZGU").

Assortment and the best drinks

Bakhchisaray wines are classified as ordinary wines: the winery does not produce vintage products.

Therefore, the company is unlikely to compete with such Crimean giants as the Massandra winery or the Inkerman factory of vintage wines.

However, local beverages have carved out a niche in the wine market and are popular due to their low cost and decent quality.

Grape products are represented by 6 lines:

  1. Author's wine

Includes wine beverages and original dry, semi-sweet and fortified specimens.

  2. Crimean series of wines

It is represented by classic products from red and white European varieties, complemented by local "zest".

  3. Southern series of wines

Consists of blended beverages with a bright author's design of bottles (a peacock is depicted on the label).

  4. A series of port wines

It is represented by strong alcoholic products (15-17% alcohol) made from white and red fruits.

  5. A series of light wines

Includes simple varietal and assemblage drinks with low alcohol content and fruity flavor.

  6. Legends of Ai-Petri

The collection is dedicated to the famous Crimean symbol and includes semi-dry and semi-sweet wines from popular varieties.

The most popular products are additionally available in 10-liter tetrapacks.

Reviews of Bakhchisaray wines are mostly positive, negative ones are rare.

Among the most popular: "Chardonnay", "Merlot", "Sauvignon Blanc" - from the "Crimean Series", "Kachi-Kalon", "Queen of the Night" and "Khan's Palace" - from the "Author's".
